This article was extremely informative and helpful! I am new to gardening. We are getting ready for a spring garden operation, and are going to be using raised beds. We will be using composted mushroom compost and composted compost primarily, rather than ordinary soil. Will it prove beneficial to go ahead and thickly mulch the bottom levels of our beds as we are prepping them for planting even though the beds won't have a full season to really decompose and fertilize itself?

I use a timer and flood every hour for 15 minutes ( 1 hour off and 15 minutes on ) - investment maybe $20
I would suggest you restrict flow out so when you pump water in, it flows in faster than it flows out ---- If it gets too full in 15 minutes - can lower that time.

Hi Cara
I have been running a system for about 2 years now, It does take time for everything to grow great but once the balance is set up with the nutrients beinf supplied by the fish = it works great.
I dont have to clean the tank at all and feed the fish but not overfeed.
I add filtered water every week and do not have any plants actually growing in with the fish now
regards
Martin

Hi!! I'm not sure how long ago this article was posted so maybe there is no one who will respond...but I will try anyways.

I just finished building my own version of the aquaponics system and I was just wondering about root rotting. The system I just build has a constant flow of water and never completely drains..will this be a problem? Also the flow is not strong/fast enough that the bed is ever saturated to the top of the pebbles I put in, is that a problem either? Hope you can help!!

Thanks,

Interesting article.
The only question is: When will there be a biodigester that just takes all the waste-products.

I have to admit that I had been a little leary of all the hype occurring around solar. After exploring numerous programs and buy options my husband and I decide to make the leap. We ended up getting solar without money down and we immediatly started spending less the 1st month is was installed. I must say that the benefits of solar appear to be real and I am very happy that we decide to proceed with it.

I found a ton of ideas at this veal recipe site, but with so mnay to choose from I got so confused!! Also, what about the cut of veal? I have absolutely no idea about that, and the recipes generally don't mention which cut is used.
