Grober’s Green Story
Grober is environmentally concerned and socially conscious. We have an important story to share. We strive for efficiency, sustainability and responsibility in every aspect of our operations.
- Grober’s milk replacer is produced from whey, a co-product of the dairy industry
- Milk-fed calves require less tillage than grainfed animals and yield less methane, reducing the animal’s overall environmental footprint
- Beginning in 2010 Grober is conducting a complete environmental audit of all facilities to assess our current impact and find more ways to improve our efficiency
As a demonstration of our commitment to innovative and sustainable practices, Grober has made considerable investment in the construction of a BioGas suite at our Cambrige, Ontario facilities. Waste products from Grober’s livestock facilities, as well as organic waste from the grocery and food service industries are diverted to the BioGas suite where they break down organically. The energy is then harnessed and used for electricity. The BioGas suite provides multiple benefits including:
- The generation of enough clean energy to power 500 homes
- A pathogen-free land nutrient that provides a safer alternative to many chemical fertilizers
- Diverting greases and organic wastes from landfill sites through the ORMI program (Organic Resource Management Inc.)
- A byproduct that can be be used as a green material for packaging.
